Quick tip on how to simply seperate custom from contrib modules
You use a contrib modules from Drupal.org and sometimes you build your own custom modules. But when the number of modules grows it becomes harder to quickly seperate your custom modules from your contrib modules.
At VDMi we have this problem all the time. For our clients we build custom modules almost every day. To bring some structure in this we do the following.
The default way is to put your modules inside
/sites/all/modules/. When it is a multi-site setup it might look a little different. Basicly you put all your modules in one module directory.
We add two more directories to the modules folder. These are the
custom directory. In the
contrib directory we put all our contributed modules and our custom modules in our
custom directory. Drupal discovers all of the modules in every subdirectory that is inside the
